comfort quilt

The third quilt I ever made. 1993-4 for my niece Alex. My sister is in the hospital with a difficult pregnancy and I was surprised to see this. She brought it with her as a comfort. It is hand sewn, appliqued, and quilted. The little aprons are pieces of cotton lace trim. The hands are pieced of muslin (what did I know!) I was glad to capture a couple of pictures since it has minimal wear and tear.

Hugs & Kisses, I love you!

It doesn't get any easier than cutting a layer cake in half and inserting jelly roll strips. I love Aneela Hoey's Sherbet Pips. The little playful doggies, scooter people, and the overall color combo. Quilted in X's O's and U's for I love you, a lot of love went into making this quilt.

4X4: a Scrappy quilt

Scrappy squares! A pieced 2 inch 4X4 blocks quilt that I made in a hurry just in time for Christmas. I love Kona gray and yellow. The back is made with Moda Puzzle pieces in Paisley gray and Bella Solid in Sunshine. Quilted in gray, I think I like it. Bunny ears for my quilt, compliments of the hubby.

1 and 2 of 5

Another Christmas in the red. So I decided to put my mad skills to work and sew away. There's scraps everywhere, I am forever picking off the ittiest pieces of thread off me, and I haven't gotten more than six hours of sleep since October. But it will be more than worth it to see smiling faces getting new quilts on Christmas day. I haven't decided whether not we will "raffle" these out, or give each daughter the one they prefer. The first is a "broken dishes" pattern that I sewed all wrong (I was supposed to rotate the blocks) done in 30's reproduction pastels and (gasp!) muslin. The back is pieced. Meandering is new to me but it is a very fast method to getting things done. The half navy block is a piece I am still looking for, I took it apart to straighten it out and misplaced it. LOL.

This one is the "Disappearing Nine Patch." It was super super easy and would definitely make it again. The back is white with a pieced strip.

Packages!

I am a slow quilter. I buy fabric and love on it, caress it, 'cause i can't bear to cut it. I stumbled upon upon Hawthorne Threads and saw some Tufted Tweets i never got around to getting. So i swooped it up.
Then i realized i needed some Sherbet Pips backing to finish up what i started.  i love those cute running dogs and the scooter kids! And I swear i am not stalking Kate Spain. But i love her lines. Finishing my Christmas quilt now! Fort Worth fabric Studio sent me some hot cocoa mix too! So sweet!

Dallas Modern Quilt Guild Challenge for Moda

Moda quilt challenge: Aneela Hoey's Little Apples. It's supposed to be a mini (done) but I couldn't help but tackle a larger project. It was a tough one! I didn't use tight enough stitches in the paper-pieced arches and when I attempted to stretch it when pinning, I kept ripping them! yikes! In the end, it came out good. If i had to do it over I would hand quilt it, but since i procrastinated, I had to get it done. The little girl laying down reading is my favorite!
