a quick finish

I just had to finish this String quilt (although I had been sewing the blocks for about six months) in a matter of days, since I knew my scheduled shoulder surgery was coming up. I love the aqua binding, I have to use this color again soon. This was made for a very lovely niece. I hope she likes it.

quilties

I've been lucky enough to have friends who have needed special baby shower gifts. I love whipping together small quilts. Not only is it a stash buster for me, it makes a memorable gift.

Then I get a queen sized request. With color and pattern requests. I don't like doing those as much. I just don't feel good enough yet. And quilting one that big is a pain. But the financial part made it worth it.

My received 2013 Mini modern swap was amazing. It is hanging in my living room. Made by Jamie Moilanen.

Sew Away

I am finally quilting the blocks I won in the block lottery last year from Dallas Modern Quilt Guild. I am quilting them one by one. I will finish sometime in early next year, as I am in holiday sew mode at full speed.
Inspired by Natalia Bonner, hope she doesn't mind me stalking her style.

I am also in awe of Angela Walters and Leah Day.

still longing for summer

In short, it was a short summer. A summer without a beach vacation didn't feel like summer at all.

Made a boy quilt, again

Bought a house, moved in the dead heat of summer.
Painted, moved, unpacked, repeat.

Fourth of July, summertime baseball
Tie dye fun, family style
DMQG mini swap
Quilted for a friend, a quilt top she made

I'd rather be sewing

I've collected almost all prints in the Prince Charming line by Tula Pink.I think I am missing the frog fabric in the indigo palette.
Born to Quilt, Forced to Work. Isn't that how it goes? I can quit making excuses now that the school year has come to an end, a light work load, and the miracle of crockpot recipes. I don't know if I will use a Tula Pink pattern or use a Pinterest idea. I can't believe I put this adorable line on hold.

Eli's baby quilt

I made a quilt in time for my niece's baby shower. I started Tuesday night, skipped Wednesday due to thunderstorms and a tornado watch, did a bit Thursday night, stayed up to 4am Saturday (sweet tea) and finished Saturday in time for a 1:00 party.

The left border is quilted in rows, the top row in chevrons, the right side in a diamonds pattern, and the bottom is quilted in loops. The center block is meandered wildly, and the name in felt. The backing is pieced in  strips and big blocks from the Pooches and Pickups line/

QuiltCon!

Sick and all I got to go to the first ever QuiltCon for the Modern Quilt Guild  in Austin, TX . I managed not to get car sick or cough on any quilts. Also had so much fun with my sister getting crepes at Flip Happy Crepes, visiting the Capitol, drooling over quilts, pie from Colin Street Bakery, and Kolaches from West Texas. What a fun day!

the Flip Happy Menu, you have to get one savory and one sweet!

the string quilt road less traveled

For a Winter Challenge, a few lucky Dallas Modern Quilt Guild members were able to get some Madrona Road fabric by Violet Craft and asked to make something, drawing inspiration from the guild. I really wanted to make a cross quilt, some I have seen made for members.  Not enough fabric for that but I did come up with a string quilt, something I ended up using all the fabric in. I did add white, grey, yellow, and navy solids, staying a little true to the color palette.

Some of the seams are little off.  I could use a tutorial on HST, and sewing with bias cuts. and basting tighter. And de puffying a quilt. Ugh. Maybe if I could turn off The Bachelor while cutting/sewing, I would be a tiny bit more accurate.

I quilted some mad- plaid  looking stripes, yay for straight line quilting. And if you WERE a darning foot, where would you be?

See the chop stick wrappers below? I was inspired to quilt using that pattern. Sometimes you are inspired from the weirdest things.

The back is a Bella Solid yellow with a bit of B/W Ta Dot. I am going to bind it in black? navy? It's too late to think about it today. I have two days until due date.

I did I did I did! I did have enough scraps to make a 12 inch block for our giveaway of all 15 blocks by all the DMQG members who participated in the challenge.
